I’ve been a member of Freecycle for a couple of years now, part of the Balwyn Group. I often give items away via freecycle & occasionally get free boxes (for my charity donations).
“Freecycle is an international network of online hyper-local groups that aim to keep reusable things out of landfill by keeping useful goods in circulation.”
- A 2008 report by the Australia Institute states that 88% of Australian homes have at least one cluttered room and & ”four in 10 Australians say they feel anxious, guilty or depressed about the clutter in their homes”
- Dr Susie Burke, senior psychologist for the environment at the Australian Psychological Society, says the practice of freecycling speaks volumes about our community.
”It says obviously that we’ve got too much stuff and we’re very wealthy. But it also says that we get a good kick out of being generous and connecting with other people,” Burke says.
”The more we have opportunities to have those positive feelings of co-operation and wellbeing between us, we are all enriched as a society.”
