When you are downsizing & have sold your home, it’s easy to get bogged down trying to make $$ from selling the items you don’t want to take to your new home. Remember, the main gain is in selling the home. Consider:
- The pre-loved furniture market has changed – price & look are now major motivators for younger buyers
- Auction is a good option but you need to consider the costs (transport, commission)
- 2nd hand dealers – few remaining & fairly picky
- Gumtree/Ebay – convenient option but can be time consuming
- Charity – usually want smaller items (not wardrobes, TV cabinets, couches). Time can be an issue for charity pickups as often you need to book 2-3 weeks in advance
- Giving for free is worth considering (Gumtree, Freecycle)
all sorters usually take care of clearing everything left in the home for those using our services pre-settlement. In most cases, the goal is to minimise rubbish removal costs (which can be considerable) whilst selling, donating & recycling as much as possible.
